Running Assessments and Video Analysis at Physio Fitness in Bondi Junction
RUNNING ASSESSMENTS
Our running assessments using video analysis on a treadmill, helps evaluate kinematic patterns in an effective way to identify various types of running styles and assess any biomechanical errors. Combine this with joint ROM, strength and control testing, allows the clinician to develop a comprehensive rehabilitation program and appropriate running technique modification strategy.
How a Running Assessment Works
The assessment will start off with a thorough subjective and objective history about your injury or symptoms, using musculoskeletal screening tools, basic range of movement and stability / strength testing.
We will also take information on footwear, running volumes, speed, cadence and other current fitness regimes.
You will then be video recorded running on the treadmill at the pace that you normally run at. The Physio will then assess and breakdown the video, analysing each component from the rear view, side view and front view to identify any biomechanical faults that are relevant to your symptoms or are potential for injury.
Biomechanical Assessment
Running biomechanics play a key role in injury development. The majority of running injuries are considered overuse injuries, with the most frequently injured sites the knee, foot and lower leg.
Many of these injuries have high recurrence rates and may often lead to a reduction or cessation in training.
Multiple factors contribute to running injuries, however abnormal running kinematics certainly play a role.
Running assessments are particularly useful for people with Patellofemoral pain, hip pain, ITB ‘Syndrome’, shin splints (MTSS), Achilles tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis as well as stress fractures and muscle strains.
Personalised Rehabilitation Program
Once all the testing for joint ROM, strength and control is done, our Physio's will then create a mobility and strength exercise program specifically addressing the issues. You will be able to access online and follow with instructional videos.
The Physio will then go through these exercises with you in another appointment.
If required, a force-plate gait assessment will also be taken to determine exact foot movement patterning left vs right on foot-strike through to toe off.
